Here at Infomania.co.uk we’re dedicated to digging out those bits of information that you’ve always wanted to know.
One of the things that is really difficult to find out is how much energy domestic appliances actually use. You can usually find out the power rating easily enough – if only by reading the label on the back. Unfortunately it isn’t much help for devices with thermostats, like irons, toasters, fridges and freezers. Their thermostats turn them on and off all the time and there is no way of knowing how much of the time they are consuming power.
Other appliances like washing machines and dishwashers also have motors that run intermittently, again making it impossible to know how much power they are using. The good news is that we’ve done all the hard work for you in our series of “How much does it cost to use a…” items.
